protecting the environment

Our sustainability Efforts

Our goal is to grow high quality winegrapes and craft great wines while protecting the environment. From grapes to glass, we feel strongly that sustainability matters. We have made choices, in the vineyard and winery, to use sustainable practices so you can feel good about the wine choices you make.

Vineyard

We have sheep in the vineyard so we do not have to use a tractor to mow between the rows. The sheep are kept in check by Alba, our winery dog.

We use special cover crops (plants in between the rows of vines) to regenerate the soil with nitrogen and other nutrients to prevent erosion.

There is no tilling of grass and cover crops into the soil, we do not disturb microbial processes and we do not compact the soil.

We use solar energy for much of our winery’s electricity needs.

Rather than use harmful netting to keep away the birds, we use sound.

We capture rainwater for use in the winery.

Wine does not get better in very heavy bottles. The Sustainable Wine Roundtable Bottle Weight Accord is a global agreement to reduce the average weight of wine bottles to below 420 grams by the end of 2026. Ours are just 395 grams, we are mindful of the impact of shipping wines on our carbon footprint.

We use 100% recyclable aluminum screw caps, which means no more risk of having a corked wine taste since there is no more cork. It allows for keeping the bottles standing upright, hermetically sealed, allowing to keep wine longer once open. The wine labels and shipping boxes are FSC certified which ensures that products come from responsibly managed forests that provide environmental, social and economic benefits.
